About

Eglantine is the romantic name for the Sweet Briar rose, used by Chaucer and Shakespeare alike. The Sweet Briar, or Briar, Rosa rubiginosa, is one of four wild roses native to England and a stalwart of many a hedgerow and cottage garden hedge. It is characterised by apple scented leaves, which are especially noticeable after rainfall, and its prickly stems from which it gets its name.
